1. Baru Volcano

Climb the highest peak in Panamá, located in Tierras Altas. Embark on a climb of approximately 7 hours to the top of this volcano, 11,400 feet (3,475 meters) above sea level. This place is so special that on clear days, from the peak, you can see both the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean at the same time. Bring layers, as the temperature at its peak can drop to 0 ºC.

2. Metropolitan Natural Park

The only tropical forest in Latin America located within a capital city, known as the green lung of Panama City. This park protects 232 hectares of lush tropical rain and dry forest. An urban oasis offering 7 trails perfect for hiking, birdwatching, and spotting local wildlife, while also providing breathtaking panoramic views of the city. Undoubtedly, a natural refuge for both residents and visitors alike.

3. The Caldera Route

This 30 km route connects 4 trails that surround El Valle de Anton, on the Riviera Pacifica. Tour the India Dormida, Cara Iguana, La Silla and El Gaital if you want the full experience, or choose the one that best suits your vacation. Get ready to cross rivers, climb hills, and see waterfalls on these uneven trails.

4. Los Quetzales Trail

This trail is famous for being home to the quetzal, the mythical Central American bird. It is a paradise of forest, lichens, orchids and moss. In addition, it joins two destinations that you should not miss: Boquete and Cerro Punta at Tierras Altas. Enjoy the cloudy forest as you hike this 11.3 mile (18.2 km) trail. This climb is not too steep and it has a well-defined path.

5. Cerro Hoya National Park

Discover the Playita River Waterfall Trail, in Cerro Hoya National Park, on the Pacific Coast of Veraguas. It is 8.6 miles (14 km) in the middle of a forest that remains practically intact, in which you'll have to jump rocks and border the river. Take advantage of the tour to spot hundreds of birds and look for endemic species such as the Azuero gem hummingbird.
