The Cinta Costera (Coastal Beltway) is a 7 km (4.3 miles) public recreation area that runs along Panama Bay and includes gardens, bike lanes, sports fields, lookouts, and traditional restaurants.
The Cinta Costera is divided into sections 1, 2, and 3. The coastal beltway runs from the upscale neighborhood of Paitilla to the Casco Viejo and the popular neighborhood of El Chorrillo.
You can explore the Cinta Costera on foot or by bicycle. You can linger in the Japanese Garden in the first section of the beltway. Once you’ve completed the first kilometer (0.6 miles), celebrate with the famous raspa’o panameño (crushed ice bathed in condensed milk and fruit flavors) at Anayansi plaza.
The Mirador del Pacífico lookout is located at kilometer 2.6, where you can take great photos. It’s very close to the Seafood Market, where popular restaurants specialize in seafood. We recommend the ceviche!
Want to explore some more? Dare to explore the coastal beltway’s pedestrian trail with unique views of the Casco Viejo! At kilometer 4.5, you’ll find the “platos turísticos,” which are circular lookouts over the ocean, equipped with lounge chairs and binoculars, to view the city and its wall up close. When the beltway ends, you can go directly into the Casco Viejo or venture a little further to delight in Sabores de El Chorrillo, a series of small restaurants managed by neighborhood women who cook traditional dishes. Savor fried fish and patacón (fried plantains) seated on a terrace facing the ocean. Yummy!
The Cinta Costera begins in the heart of the city in the Paitilla neighborhood and ends in the Casco Antiguo. You can reach any of its sections by taxi or public transport.
