The Plaza Mayor Museum in Panama Viejo is an archaeological and cultural site dedicated to preserving the history of the ancient city of Panamá, founded in 1519. The museum displays historical and archaeological artifacts that document the daily life, architecture, and commerce of the first Spanish city on the Pacific coast. It is in the center of the historic site of Panamá Viejo, which was destroyed in 1671 by the pirate Henry Morgan, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
